Belarusian president may resume anti-corruption rhetoric amid optimisation of state apparatus

The situation has not changed

In January – May 2016, Belarus reported 451 corruption crimes, including 50 bribery charges. Recently, there were quite a few media reports about prosecution of high ranking officials on corruption charges. Amid dwindling state resources, the state is attempting to step up discipline and liability of managers, especially in the most troubled economic sectors. The Belarusian authorities are likely to boost anti-corruption rhetoric amid declared optimisation of the state machine.
