Belarusian authorities respond to pressure by some social groups to prevent their politicisation

The situation has not changed

Apparently, the Belarusian authorities are ready for a dialogue with society on most topical issues, which concern some narrow social groups capable of prompt, decisive and effective mobilisation. In addition, the authorities are attempting to prevent contacts between the opposition and active social groups. Some opposition parties have effectively used organised pressure groups to promote their demands and to recruit new activists, given existing restrictions on campaigning and the absence of the opposition in the representative bodies.
