Belarusian authorities are likely to avoid imbalances in law enforcement through staff layoffs and offering additional benefits

The situation has not changed

A controversy erupted in the Krychev police department when eleven employees asked the Interior Minister to dismiss their superiors due to “numerous abuses”. Apparently, tension in the law enforcement agencies have increased due to cutbacks in welfare and requirements to ensure public safety indicators. That said, recently, the Interior Ministry was in the forefront among public institutions in terms of troublesome incidents. Meanwhile, the law enforcement remains among the most populated and resource consuming public institutions, in which the state preserves high wages as compared with other public institutions. The frequency of controversies in the law enforcement is likely to increase due to cutbacks in wages in the public sector and tough requirements for job duties and functions. Amid layoffs, the Belarusian authorities are likely to boost the loyalty of the law enforcement through ensuring additional benefits.
