Coverage of the start of the election campaign by state-owned websites
Mediakritika website writes about the coverage of the elections on the websites of district executive committees and state-owned regional newspapers. The vast majority of these resources either didn’t cover the start of the election campaign at all, or covered the activities of signature collectors in support of Lukashenka without any mentioning of alternative candidates. The website cites some of the materials such as:
“Almost everybody who gave their signatures in support of president Lukashenka underlined that Alexander Lukashenka cares about the people, about the development of medicine and education, supporting young families and a healthy way of life.” (Byhau district executive committee website)
The Russian side is grateful to Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko for his decision to go to Russia as the visit after the presidential election, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Alexander Surikov said in an interview with the STV channel, BelTA has learned.
“We are grateful for this decision,” the Ambassador said.
