Without administrative resource wage arrears will grow in Belarus
According to the National Statistics Committee, in October the number of enterprises with wage arrears increased from 13 to 111. Thanks to the administrative resource, in early October most wage arrears were paid off, including at insolvent companies. However, in November wage arrears will start growing again, local authorities will not pressure enterprises to repay overdue debt, employment in various economic sectors will reduce and retail turnover will decline. In November, the state will no longer support artificial employment at enterprises and many industrial enterprises will be prompted to reduce working hours.
During searches of social and "green" activists and anarchists, law enforcement has seized computers, mobile phones and publications. The authorities have also exerted additional pressure on supporters of unauthorized street protests and independent lawyers, who represented defendants in the White Legion case. The security services have stepped up the persecution of opponents before the street protests announced by the opposition. Apparently, the Belarusian authorities aspire that participants in street protests would reduce in number and that the low interest of the population to socio-political agenda before the local election campaign would retain.
